Technique case

Keep period costume and hairstyles consistent

A period character's topknot, hairpin, collar and embroidery differ from shot to shot.

Example scene

A xianxia short. The heroine Shen Qingci appears in a bamboo grove, a hall and a courtyard at night, across 8 shots. Her costume is detailed and it's the first thing viewers notice.

Steps
Break the look into 5 parts: topknot shape, hair ornament, outer robe, inner layer and collar, belt and embroidery.
Give each part 1–2 recognisable features and drop unreproducible words like “ornate” or “exquisite”.
Generate 4 references (front full body, back, profile and a hair-ornament close-up) as the costume master.
Attach the same costume master to every shot; when the location changes, change only the lighting, not the costume text.
Check night and backlit shots separately for missing ornaments or embroidery; if lost, raise reference strength or redo the first frame.
Keep a costume checklist and tick each item after every shot.
Prompts
Costume master
20-year-old Chinese woman, oval face, long thin brows, upturned phoenix eyes. Hair: a single half-moon topknot on the crown, the rest of the black hair falling to the waist; a white jade hairpin with a plum-blossom head angled into the left side of the topknot. Costume: moon-white cross-collar robe closing right over left, silver cloud embroidery at collar and cuffs; pale green inner layer; light grey silk sash at the waist with a round white jade pendant on the left. Front full body, plain grey background, soft studio light, realistic Chinese period style, no text, no other people.
Keyframe (courtyard at night)
[Paste fixed costume description]. A courtyard at night; she stands beside a stone lantern, turned side-on toward the moon, cool blue moonlight from upper right, the lantern's warm glow lighting the left side of her face and the jade hairpin. Medium shot, vertical 9:16. Hairpin, cloud embroidery and pendant clearly visible and matching the reference.
Video
A light night breeze stirs her long hair and sleeves as she slowly raises a hand to her collar. Small movement, locked-off camera. Keep the topknot shape, hairpin position, collar direction, cloud embroidery and pendant unchanged.
✕ Failed take

Every shot said “ethereal period beauty, ornate hair ornaments”: twin buns with dangling pins in the grove, loose hair and a gold crown in the hall, the collar flipped the wrong way at night, and the pendant appears in only one shot.

✓ Passing take

Across 3 locations and 8 shots, the look reads as one shoot. Pass criteria: all 5 checklist parts ticked on every shot; the collar direction never flips; the hairpin is still recognisable in night and backlit shots.

Before/after clips are in production. Follow the steps and prompts to reproduce the result.
