Technique case

Phone chat screens: leave them blank, add text in post

Asking the video model to render a chat log gives gibberish or text that changes every frame.

Example scene

Lin Xia's phone receives three messages; the last reads “Sis, don't look back.” A 3-second screen close-up where every word must be readable.

Steps
Render the phone screen in the keyframe as a plain lit screen or a blurred UI, with no readable text required.
In the video, only a slight handheld sway or the screen lighting up; no scrolling or swiping.
Build the chat UI separately in a design tool: avatar, bubbles, timestamps and the three messages.
In the edit, pin the UI to the screen with corner-pin or planar tracking so it follows the phone.
Pop messages in one at a time, hold each for at least 1 second, and hold the last one to the end of the shot.
Check full-screen on a phone: text is readable, inside the safe zone and exactly matches the script.
Prompts
First frame
Close-up of a woman's right hand holding an older smartphone, screen facing camera, the screen an even white glow with no text or icons. Blurred convenience-store counter behind, cool teal palette, vertical 9:16. Clear hand anatomy, five fingers.
Video
The phone sways slightly in her hand; screen brightness stays constant. Locked-off camera. Keep the hand, phone shape and background unchanged; no text or graphics appear on the screen.
Negative
on-screen text, gibberish, icons, keyboard, deformed fingers, changing screen content
✕ Failed take

The prompt said “the screen shows the message: Sis, don't look back”: the result is five unrecognisable glyphs whose strokes change every frame, plus an app icon that doesn't exist.

✓ Passing take

The screen text is sharp, correct and moves with the phone. Pass criteria: every character matches the script; the overlay edges don't slip or slide; it's readable at phone size; each message stays up long enough to read.

Before/after clips are in production. Follow the steps and prompts to reproduce the result.
